Marques de Caceres 2008 Dry White

This bottle has been sitting in my wine rack for a few weeks, which is sort of amazing! It’s a Marques de Caceres 2008 Dry White Wine from Rioja that I picked up for $9.99 at a local liquor store. I suppose I was waiting for the right day to open this bottle–the evening after a run in the 90-degree heat was that right day!
I won’t lie, this wine had a couple of strikes against it. First was that it was a screwtop. Second, only 12% alcohol. (The third came as I was writing this review–apparently Marques de Caceres is sold at Trader Joe’s). However, I really enjoyed this wine. Maybe it was the insane heat that I enjoyed it in, but this was crisp, clean, and just citrusy enough. Made from 100% Viura grapes–it reminded me of a Pinot Grigio, a dry white with a bit of an edge.

Maybe the screwtop wasn’t such a bad thing–it was still good a couple of days after the fact. I might suggest pairing it with a different meal than I did–hamburger and potato chips–but hey, whatever works.
The bottom line: Perfect for a hot summer evening.
